====== Races of Lockenport ====== This is a short guide to the melting pot of creatures that live, or pass through [[lockenport|Lockenport]]. ===== Dragonborn ===== {{ http://images2.wikia.nocookie.net/dnd4/images/8/8e/DragonbornPHB.jpg?150}} Long ago, the Arkosian empire of the dragonborn contended for worldwide dominion. Now however, only a few clans of these honorable warriors remain. Most of the dragonborn in Lockenport are wanderers, as the few permanent dragonborn settlements of any size are located far to the northwest, in the area which once formed the heartlands of the Arkosian empire. Clan traditions and legends of ancient glory form an important part of dragonborn culture. Most dragonborn revere Bahamut, the Platinum Dragon, but there are also those that follow the darker path of Tiamat, the five-headed dragon goddess of wealth, greed and envy. The dragonborn shaman [[wizen|Wizen Jnr.]] is one of the [[irregulars|Lockenport Irregulars]]. He knows little of dragonborn history or culture, since he was raised by genasi on an island to the west of Lockenport. The barbarian princess [[qira|QiRa]] was happily married to a noble dragonborn for some time before he was killed by unknown assassins. She fled south towards Lockenport after being falsely accused of the murder by his family. One of the members of the [[kots|Knights of the Serpent]] is the dragonborn paladin [[gesh|Gesh]]. He is currently adventuring in the Nentir Vale, far to the north of Lockenport. ===== Drow ===== {{ http://www.kismetrose.com/dnd/images/drow1600.jpg?300}} The drow are a race of sinister elves who dwell deep within the subterranean region known as the Underdark. Most drow worship the Spider Queen goddess Lolth. They are organised into houses ruled by powerful matriarchs. The dark elves are known to take and trade slaves, so any reports of drow scouts near remote settlements is treated as bad news. Solitary drow are rarely encountered on the surface world. Those loner examples wandering the lands are usually exiles, or abandoned children who have grown up on the surface. (The latter are usually male drow, relinquished to the sunlit world by mothers as an alternative to sacrificing their infant sons to Lolth.) The drow [[rodakan|Rodakan]] grew up in an orphanage in the lands to the North of Lockenport. He ended up in Lockenport as part of a long quest to discover his background and understand the memories of a troubled childhood that plague him. Scattered around the continent to the north of Lockenport are isolated mountain settlements where dwarves are the dominant inhabitants, but in most places they are in a minority. Dwarves tend to be skilled artisans and reliable mercenaries, so they are usually welcome residents. In Lockenport City, the bank (or more correctly the "Loans, Securities and Financial Services Guild") is operated by a dwarven clan, known for their incorruptibility. Legend has it that dwarves originated on the landmass which lies some weeks by boat to the east of Lockenport. There, the ancient dwarven clans and the mighty minotaur kingdoms have clashed for centuries. It is believed the dwarves of those distant lands were responsible for the creation of the first warforged, as an instrument in their war. The gnome [[leetor|Leetor the Maker]] spent some time as a child growing up amongst a fierce tribe of dwarves. During this time, he joined dwarven guarding parties patrolling the mountains to dispatch raiding monsters. [[sunny|Sunny Rockcleaver]] is a dwarf from the northern town of Hammerfast. His father was a gnome diplomat and Leetor grew up amongst all the different races in many different places turning him a bit into a jack of all trades.\\ An immigrant from the Gnome Holdings, Orryn and his family moved to Lockenport a little more than forty years ago.
