====== Shifters ====== {{ http://www.madeofawesome.net/images/uploads/Shifter.jpg}} Shifters are distant descendants of lycanthropes, and retain some rudimentary ability to change to a more bestial form, usually during the heat of battle. They resemble humans with lithe, strong bodies most of the time, but their faces tend to hint at their animal heritage, with wide, flat noses, large eyes, heavy eyebrows and sideburns. Shifters tend to have skin and hair that is a shade of brown. Most shifters come from the clans which roam the Great Forest on the [[mainland|mainland]], to the northwest of Lockenport. These clans are loosely divided into "razorclaw" and "longtooth" families. Razorclaws claim to be distant descendants of weretigers, and have a feline cast to their features. Longtooth shifters, on the other hand, are more canine in appearance, and believe that their distant ancestors were werewolves. The temperaments of both kinds of shifter are influenced by their animal natures. They tend to think and act like predators, conceiving of most activities in terms of hunting and prey. Shifters are not uncommon in [[lockenport|Lockenport]], as the cosmopolitan nature of the city makes them feel more welcome than they do in smaller settlements. Most of them find it difficult to stay in heavily populated areas, and those that do consider themselves residents tend to have occupations which take them outside of the city as often as possible -- hunters, trackers, scouts or adventurers. [[stoella|Stoella Brookhollow]] is a razorclaw shifter who recently arrived in Lockenport from the Great Forest. She is now a member of the [[irregulars|Lockenport Irregulars]].
